From Sonja @ Lally Broch Farm: I wanted a healthier option than plastic wrap or plastic baggies to cover and preserve my family's food. After a little trial and error, I found the perfect combination of bee's wax and cotton and our home-made Bee's Wax Wraps™ were born.
At room temperature, the bee's wax sticks to itself. In the refrigerator, they harden to make an air-tight seal. Our colorful 100% cotton wraps are reusable. Since the bee's wax permeates the cotton, food particles do not stick. To wash, rinse in lukewarm water and hang to dry before reuse. With usage, the wax surface may begin to show wear. To revitalize the wraps, simply place them in a warm, sunny spot to melt and redistribute the wax. (You can also use your microwave or oven, just be sure to cover your surface to protect it from melted wax.)
I use ours every day. The small size are perfect to cover bowls or dishes for left-overs. I use the large wraps for Sean's lunch sandwiches. He brings them home in his lunch pail each evening. After a rinse, they are ready for use each day. Tuna, Buffalo Chicken, Peanut Butter sandwiches- no problem. The wraps do not hold scents. The extra-large wraps are excellent for preserving fresh loafs of bread or covering cassarole dishes. Try these, you will LOVE them! :)
